October is Walk to School Month
An excellent and inexpensive way to initiate either a comprehensive Safe Routes to School program or a more limited event is to participate in International Walk-to-School Day. The one-day event is scheduled for Oct. 8, but schools are invited to organize a walk or walks any day in October.

Lakes Region CEDS Receives EDA Funding
The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has approved funding for Lakes Region Planning Commission for work on the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). $50,000 has been awarded for the purpose of "establishing an economic development planning framework, process and strategy that supports private capital investment and job creation in the region.
